From President Coleman

Congratulations to Taylor Rodgers and Joel Garber!  They are the recipients of the first-ever OCDA Scholarship Awards.  They were chosen from seven applications for the College Education Scholarship and seven applications for the Continuing Education Scholarship.  Although all were deserving applicants, the scholarship committee was unanimous in their decision to choose the recipients.

Taylor Rodgers, recipient of the College Education Scholarship, is an undergraduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma and plans to graduate in May, 2015.  Her plans are to be a vocal music teacher and an advocate for students.

Joel Garber, recipient of the Continuing Education Scholarship, was the Director of Vocal Music and Assistant Professor of Music at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.  He recently moved his family to Norman to enter the Doctorate program at the University of Oklahoma to pursue a DMA in Choral Conducting.

This first venture for the OCDA Scholarship Program was well–received. Our goal is that it will help many in furthering their music education in future years.  With the help of OCDA members, this program should continue to grow and help our teachers stay in Oklahoma to teach.
